The artistic Arabic alphabet is the second most widely used alphabet today. This alphabet developed as an entirely cursive form of writing and is written from right to left, the opposite direction that many of us are used to reading.

The shape of each letter changes depending on where it appears in a word. Some Arabic letters have three different shapes depending on whether they are at the beginning, end, or middle of a word. The chart above shows these differences.
